The Date Palm House, originally built in the 1950's, is a guest home for groups visiting Oman under our exchange programs. Located in an alcove in Muttrah, the old commercial district, it was originally used as a residence for doctors and nurses at Al Rahmah Hospital. The accommodation comprises eight bedrooms, five bathrooms and three living rooms within a compound of approximately half an acre. The date palms were donated by grateful patients, and together with the walled garden that includes hibiscus and bougainvillea, the property has a certain serenity and peaceful ambience that makes it ideal as a retreat. The premises provide easy access to the souq, one of the best traditional Arab markets in the region, and the corniche, which provides the opportunity for leisurely walks along the Arabian Sea.
The property has all the amenities of furnished accommodation. Internet facilities are also available.
Although the existing premises in Muttrah will continue to be used as a retreat for visiting scholars and groups, a custom-built study centre is on the drawing board in the near future. In addition to a study centre, the new premises will also accommodate offices, a library, seminar rooms, etc.
